Quick Tips For Using Modern Living Room Designs

Thursday, January 29, 2015

Next generation living room needs next generation designs. That is why the use of modern living room designs is apt for the contemporary style of houses today.

In order to create an impression of modernization, the designs should incorporate the appropriate living room accessories that will accentuate the look of the room. The idea is to come up with contemporary designs but still patterned to your taste and personality.

Here's how:
1. Focus
You really do not have to spend more on buying new items just to create that modern look. With simple designs, you can easily come up with modern living room designs.

For instance, you can use lighting accessories, such as vanity strips and ornament lights. These items will serve as accent lighting and will emphasize or draw attention to your furniture even if they are not brand new. The idea is to blend modern lighting and not-so modern furniture and demonstrate what modern living room designs are all about.

2. Accessorize
Coming up with modern living room interior designs does not necessarily mean buying updated, modern furniture. You can do away with modern home accessories and create that modern living room design. These items are much cheaper than the brand new fixtures and furniture.

The important thing is to create a look of the modern world. This would mean using accessories that are elegant, shiny, and patterned in subdued colors such as silver, grey, or black.

3. Color magic
The next step in incorporating modern living room designs is the color scheme. Modern homes are usually painted in sleek colors, such as black, white, and silver.

Hence, it is best to stick to basic colors so as to reflect contemporary look. Modern living room designs for paints are also focused on using matte or flat paint finish. Avoid the glossy or shiny paint finish.

For walls, you can stick with the white color and enhance them with modern accessories such as paintings or modern day murals.

4. Go abstract
Most modern designs today are patterned in abstract designs. Hence, incorporating these things in modern living room designs will definitely bring contemporary look in your area.

You can start by using clocks or paintings with abstract designs. Abstract designs provide a playful interpretation on the perception of different things.

The Key To Proper Room Design

Wednesday, January 28, 2015

Where do you start when considering a new room design? What specific item is the key to unwrap how your room design will unfold? What is that essential element that will make or break your room design?

When performing any room design, it helps to step back from what is already present and look at the space with new perspective. By setting aside how the room or space is already designed, you will be more open to allow new ideas and creative thoughts to flow.

The best way to start from scratch is to use a floor planner or room layout program that allows you to recreate the bare essentials of a room or entire home. There is no better method to genuinely eliminate the current room layout from your minds eye.

It's very helpful to work from an overhead view of a room where you can simply drag furniture and home decor items and set them in place as desired. You can easily and quickly see how well things fit or don't fit. Overall, this works great for performing furniture placement and calculating furniture sizes, but it falls short of providing all the elements necessary to create a new room design.

To obtain the truest perspective of how to best design the room, you need to be able to view that room from the inside, with every design aspect of the original room removed. You could do this to an existing room, but that's easier said than done, especially if the space is being utilized at the time. But even if you could empty the space, your room design options will be limited to small attempts to envision how the design will all fit together. You are limited to imagining how a wall will look with respect to a paint chip or wallpaper sample in your hand, and you are limited to imagining what the floor may look like with a particular carpet style and you are limited to... well, you are simply limited to what you can attempt to imagine, while trying to get your client or family member to envision what does not yet exist.

To truly perform any new room design, you need to go one step further and create the room as a 3D model where you can virtually step inside the room and view any of your ideas with ease. Using 3D home design software, you can change the upholstery style on the furniture time and time again as you move furniture pieces around, as you change wall colors, as you add home decor items, as you change lighting fixtures, and the list goes on. 3D Home design software lets you be as creative as possible because you can easily create a design style for the room and look at it thoroughly before spending a dime on material, labor or miscellaneous expenses.

If you think it may be too difficult to create the room in the first place, this might be correct if you were to use complicated architectural CAD software, but for most interior design needs, precision to the hundredth of an inch is not necessary. Most room and home planning software programs include a room wizard which enables you to quickly create most room layouts. You just need to provide the rooms length, width and height, and viola, in seconds, you have an accurate template of your room. Then, just drop in the doors and windows and your room is ready for you to perform your design wonders.

Do you think you can only do this if you are a professional interior decorator? That doesn't really matter because once you get the empty room set up, you can experiment on any aspect of the room, over and over again until it looks great. There are times you may need professional advice, but when you just want to see how your own ideas will look, why go through the expense of hiring a professional to simply agree with you?

Alternatively, if you knew you were going to hire a pro to conclude your room design, it would be very helpful if you could provide your designer with printouts of your vision of the room in lieu of simply trying to explain everything. Providing 3D printouts is likely to speed up your room design project while also improving the chances you will be satisfied with the finished design. You should also experience lower project costs due to improved communications and less material waste.

Use This 10 Step Guide When You Start Your Next Room Design:

1 - Install an easy to use 3D home design software program:... Get it online and download the software to your computer in minutes.... You can spend even less money by using an online 3D software subscription.

2 - Measure your room, along with door and window measurements and locations.

3 - Take measurements of any permanent features or furniture that you intend to keep in the room.

4 - Use the room design wizard that comes with your 3d room planning software to create your room template.

5 - Use the 2D overhead view to place any major furniture items you know you will be keeping or will be adding.

6 - Enter your 3D room and enjoy the experience of applying multiple styles and themes to every aspect of your room until you are satisfied with the final look and feel.

7 - Print multiple views from multiple angles.

8 - With full-color rendered images of your proposed room in hand, share your concepts with family and friends or even with a decorating pro and take notes on any feedback that will enhance your room design.

9 - Return to your 3D room design program and make adjustments to your room layout, home decor items, picture selections, paint colors, etc and then behold your finished room design idea in vivid 3D.

10 - It's time to make it real. Take your finished design and transform that idea into a beautiful room.

Sliding Room Dividers is Great to Space Saving Your Room

Thursday, January 22, 2015

When styling an expansive room in your home you may run into the challenge of creating space needs that call for a sense of intimacy. A generous size room offers you many options when attempting to create space saving ideas.

You will find that sliding room dividers used as a room addition are unequaled in their practical and appealing versatility. They can be used to partition off sections of the room to provide that much needed informal gathering place and brings cohesiveness to the room and are designed to add flexibility.

Often homeowners will attempt to alter the room by using hanging curtains however they do not do the job as effectively. I even heard of a homeowner that attempted to use a sliding closet door as a divider however a sliding room divider offers a better alternative to achieve a polished effect.
A darkening sliding panel is another style option for rooms that get too much sunlight and it is a great way to change up the look of the room without using ordinary window dressings. It can also be put to use for windows and patio doors as well as a room divider.

One particular type of darkening sliding panel many homeowners are familiar with is Manhattan room darkening panels which are a great choice among all the good choices on the market.
While blocking out intense rays of the sun the effect is quite bewitching because the shadows created by the panels and the variations are endless when selecting various fabrics and textures. You can even have your darkening sliding panel custom designed with harmonizing valances which help to create a more complete and stylish look to the room.

By means of catalog research at your local home design store or online searches you can even find a room darkening sliding panel with tinting if that is your preference. The most suitable place for this type of panel would be a sun room or spa. A spa or sun room in your home is the ultimate indulgence for helping to relieve stress.

Panels that are tinted are the best means of darkening a room without being too overt as they block out the sun in an effective manner to provide just the right atmosphere for relaxation.
If you are looking for ways to increase the size of a smaller room then a divider can add flexibility while achieving a spectacular room. What an ingenious way to modify the room without expensive remodeling.

You will find a divider panel easy to store and if need be it can be disassembled in a snap. It is a space saver even as it adds size into your room due to its ingenious design. By using a sliding room divider you add a touch of elegance to your small space.

Working with a modest size room does not restrict you from going big with your design elements. The use of dividers gives you a stylish expansion to your room while also benefiting from saving space. One of the most important considerations for the divider is to make sure the size is correct for the space.

The mistake of not measuring properly means the divider will not be an appropriate fit for the room and will only call attention to the fact that the room is small without effective space for the homeowner.

Sliding room dividers done correctly are the best way to add privacy, space and additional storage to any home. That is why specific measurements are so important when furnishing your room to guarantee the effect you wish to accomplish. There are several colors and style options that you can choose which provide you with a choice for any budget or trend you desire.

Occasionally sliding room panel dividers go off course or seize up on their rollers. The easy fix is to take the room divider sliding doors panel roller brackets away from the track and examine them for any signs of wear and tear. Clean the track of any debris as not keeping them clear could mean damage to the brackets or panels which would result in readjusting. This procedure is very simple; you merely tighten the screw with a wrench.

Pre-made sliding panels for your room divider, covers for your windows or a cover for your closet can all be modified to suit any room. These panels are create separate space in any room and turn out to be easy for attaching, a breeze for installing and are budget friendly.

Also hardware such as aluminum tracking are easy components for walls or ceilings. You'll find that custom pre-made panels are not very expensive and are very long lasting in their efficiency.
Interior sliding doors room dividers work great in place of ordinary doors. In Japan homeowners have used rice paper as opposed to glass or other materials as separation in their homes. If you are looking for something out of the ordinary to create an unmatched look to your room then this is the design element to go with.

You don't need an extravagant budget or an expansive sized room to realize your desire to enjoy an elegant room. By using sliding room dividers even the most modest room can become an elegant jewel with their ability to add grandeur to even a small room.

With the addition of a sliding room divider you can refashion any room into a room displaying its virtues instead of its vices. They are an elegant solution for space and the best solution for space issues.

Easy Guide to Hardwood Flooring

Sunday, January 18, 2015

Whether you're building, renovating, or remodeling, if you've decided on hardwood flooring, you know that this choice is only the first of many. You'll have to decide on the species, appearance, finishes, and styles. Often, this process can be overwhelming. Here is a rundown to help make these decisions a little easier.

Species
From Cherry to Maple and from Cypress to Walnut, there are more than 50 different species of this type of flooring available to consumers. Each species has its own color and grain, including some that even have tones of purple within them. If you want a lighter look, consider Ash White or Bamboo. For a darker hue, think about one of the Walnut varieties. Maple is a favorite with many because of its uniform, elegant texture and neutral color. Look through species galleries and consult with a professional as to which may be the best for you.

Appearance
Basically, the appearance of your hardwood flooring has to do with its grade and its cut. Clear means that there are minimal marks and it is uniform in appearance. Select means the wood has natural color variations that include knots and streaks. Common 1 and 2 choices have even more natural characteristics. These are often chosen for character. Common 2 is the more rustic variety. You may also come across these grades as first (similar to select), second (similar to Common 1), and third (similar to Common 2). There are also three types of cuts. Plain sawn, the easiest and most common, gives a varied grain appearance. Quarter sawn, while more expensive, offers greater wear resistance and a uniform grain appearance. Rift sawn is similar to quarter sawn, but without the ray flecks (shimmering flake figures) found in quarter sawn.

Finish
Surface finishes are durable, water resistant, and low maintenance. They remain on the surface of the hardwood flooring, acting as a protective layer. Surface finishes include water based, oil based, acid cured, and moisture cured. Wax finishes work by soaking into the pores of the species, forming a seal. Although a wax finish seals your floor, the finish will show spots from water and other spills. Acrylic impregnated finishes are injected into the material, and are used mainly for high traffic, commercial areas, like restaurants. They are really strong and really durable.

Styles
You can choose between strip, plank, and parquet styles for your floors. Strip is usually an inch and a half to three inches wide, making the room look larger. This is the traditional style, and it's considered more formal than the others. Plank is three to seven inches wide. It's also linear, but creates a more casual feel because of the width. Parquet is usually geometric, with a non-linear look, ranging from a simple design to something more complex.

Selecting hardwood flooring is more than just choosing a species and calling it a day. There are many different elements that allow consumers to get the look and feel that works best within their home's style. These types of floors add value and beauty to any house, which is why they are so popular.

Create a Multipurpose Rooms in Small Homes

Sunday, January 11, 2015

Smallness in the past has often been equated with poverty. However people with plenty of money spend their holidays in very cramped conditions on yachts, in caravans or in tents and can enjoy themselves. In many cases it seems cosier. What is noticeable now, especially in large cities like London and New York, is the partly economic and partly fashion-driven trend to make the very most of a small room or flat. The one-room flat becomes a totally designed space with all the necessary functions slotted in by using imaginatively designed fitted furniture and fold-away systems. Inspiration for these designs has often been gained from the interiors of train sleepers, boats or even the space shuttle.

Why do some of us think we need such large houses? It can be a desire for status or somewhere to set off or store an excess of possessions. Alternatively, a large house can be used as a way of remaining aloof or private from others. Whatever the reasoning, we should remember when we are thinking of moving house that having a small, appropriately-sized home has considerable ecological benefits.

Multipurpose rooms
Small space living necessitates using the same space for different activities, one of the most obvious ways of making the best use of space within your home. Of course most people do this anyway with certain rooms, but it was much more common in the past.

All housing started as a one-room dwelling space and this can still be seen in many parts of the world. However our rooms have become gradually more specialised along with the increased specialisation of our lives.

The following are the commonest activities that we perform in our homes:
  • Sleeping
  • Food storing and preparing
  • Eating
  • Washing our bodies
  • Excreting
  • Washing clothes
  • Relaxing: reading, sitting
  • Playing games
  • Craft working or DIY
  • Cleaning
  • Meditating
  • Growing plants
  • Entertaining friends
  • Office working
  • Watching TV
  • Playing music
  • Exercising
  • Writing & homework
Some opulent houses have separate rooms devoted to each of these activities, often more for show than for convenience. Each activity can even be sub-divided to spawn dressing rooms and breakfast rooms etc., but most of us combine some of the activities and fit them to the rooms we have available. However, we still often feel that to have more rooms would be an advantage. We need to balance up the seeming convenience of a separate room for each activity with the wastefulness of having expensively equipped accommodation idle for much of the time.

With all the ideas and technology available today, it is possible to achieve ingenious arrangements with fold-away beds, revolving furniture, the use of blinds, curtains, and special lighting, etc. This can be an exciting process to embark on, if you need inspiration, some magazines have sections specialising in rooms where spaces have been used to maximum effect. The treatment can seem expensive in time and money but is usually considerably less costly than a conversion or extension.

You can think which activities already occupy the same space in your home and then, by looking at the list above, which further combinations you might be able to employ in order to make space for self-sufficiency or some of your more pressing requirements. It is in the detailed design of these rooms that success depends; if you feel unsure in this area, call in a designer who can help you work out an attractive arrangement.
Space for a retreat or meditation room

One example of combining activities which does not involve extra furniture is the idea of combining a room as a meditation room or retreat. Here the idea is to choose a room in the house which you can strip of all clutter and have only things in the room which you find harmonious, simplicity is the key. I am choosing to emphasise this as it brings together the ecology of space within our homes, our physical health and psychological well-being. Some people choose the bedroom, others the bathroom or the attic. This ensures that there is at least one room in the house free from clutter which allows us to clear our mind and focus on whatever we choose, be it meditation, positive visualisations, empowering ourselves, exercise or simple relaxation.
