..what is one of the hardest design decisions of all? How to decorate around a wall-mounted television, that's what! The television in our family room has been sitting all alone on the wall for nearly a year now as I've struggled to come up with a clever way to decorate around it. I think this must be a common design dilemma now, so I'll share with you some of the solutions I've found.. Have you had this problem? What have you decided on?
I've decided to have an eclectic arrangement of frames around the tv..
Or you could try..

Duh! Here is am searching for the tv in those first few pics! Silly me! Tv's do tend to stand out, don't they? I quite like the idea of blending them in. I have thought about placing art around ours (it's not on the wall) but I think the wall is the wrong shape.

It's a tricky one isn't it Rachael. I have a long rectangular canvas hung lenghtways above our TV so the wall doesn't looks so 'stark/TV!' Please share pics of what the end results looks like, I'd love to see!

Rachael, you are so handy the way you post such clever ideas/design solutions! I love the flower wall behind the TV, you don't tend to notice the TV really at all ll!! Very clever. Jane x
Our wall mounted TV is not fantastic, particularly since we have visible TV cords. Such a quandary. xx
Love all your ideas. Ours is wall mounted over an antique oak sideboard. With various items stored on top of the sideboard it helps soften the tv a bit. If you want I can email or stick a photo in a post for you. x
I am the most impressed by the tv in the wood veneer wall (the one with the shelves on the side filled with books). That, to me, is just a great solution (-:
Love this post as we are debating this at the moment in our bedroom!Fab ideas!

Frames around the tv is a great idea, it would sort of blend in, but the picture with the screen hiding the tv is the best! Tv's are the worst aren't they, they just stick out wherever and how ever you put them, and these days they are getting bigger and bigger, can't hide them lol! Let us know what your solution will be :)
there are some really great solutions.
my fave is the tv with the fireplace.

This is always a tough one. We have a beautiful paneled fireplace in our family room and my husband wanted to hang a large flatscreen over the fireplace. Men really love their TV's and remotes, don't they? Luckily, we had a wet bar in the corner with glass shelves. Since we had no other options and I refused to have a TV above the fireplace, we got rid of the glass shelves, and installed a flatscreen TV on the wall. We have enclosed the tv in a cabinet so it is concealed when we aren't watching it.
TV's always seem to fit in better in a contemporary room. Good luck.
I know that dellima well ! I like the 5th picture with the simple long bench underneath BUT there is always a but. Where are all the cords , I know some can be hidden behind , but what about the power ? Back to the drawing board.....
Hello,
It's such a dilemma of what to do with the television in the family room. Our tv is sitting on this big farmtable agains one wall of our family room. Behind it is two pictures. The farmtable is deep so I have decorated the table with some accessories so that you don't just focus on the television. Then on either side are two floral pictures. I do love the no. 10 picture above. I love that the tv blends with the other black frames. I think that is ideal and it looks pretty. When it's off it just looks like another frame on the wall. I can't hide my tv but our kids pictures pop up with music in the background.
Can't wait to see what you come up with.
Thank you for sharing.
Claudia
Thank you for all your comments! Regarding the cords, they can be put in the wall cavity and be fed through a 'plate' (like a powerpoint) into the equipment. That's what we've done and it's quite neat and tidy. Rachaelxx
OOh so many fabulous pictures!
I love, love the one with the recessed DVD L shape bit. Haha I think you know which one!
We recessed our TV into a stacked stone "chimney" and put the latest and most fab recessed gas fireplace underneath - it looks just like a picture. It was a lot of work though!

As much as I wanted to wall mount our new flat screen I couldn't. A couple of 'minor' issues such as no wall cavity & no ceiling space to wire it up through-stupid '70's
houses!!! That last image has given me a great idea for ours, which is currently languishing on our coffee table, pushed up against the wall.
