More kitchen..

Thank you for your lovely comments about our kitchen..it's so nice to share it with you. Here's the 'cooking' side of the kitchen..

I love the drawers. I told the designer I wanted drawers EVERYWHERE! In our old kitchen we had lots of cupboards, including a corner one that was so deep I could fit my whole body inside! I've used one of the top drawers for spices, the other for cups and the last one for coffee and tea..

I love the large cooktop - I'm able to fit more than one pot or frypan at a time! (Miele KM2054). The rangehood is very effective and has fantastic lighting. (Miele DA399)

I've always wanted two ovens.. The top oven (Miele H5040) is a 'combi oven' - microwave/oven. We use it as our everyday microwave and the heating is perfect. It can be a little noisy though - the glass tray vibrates at times! The larger oven (Miele H5240) is wonderful, my cakes are no longer lopsided.. Very easy to clean too.

We were able to put in a larger kitchen as we extended the entire room out 1700mm. I really love this kitchen but in an effort to tell you about any renovation 'mistakes' I made....

....I did have to go for function over form in this area, hence the unbalanced upper cabinetry. I also chose the wrong tiles - I would go for subway next time. And I'll never be sure about the glass doors..I did take them off and liked the open shelf look - but to adjust them to open shelves would be quite expensive. They can stay as they are for now!

The only other thing is the moulding - it's not high enough. It was thrown in at the last moment - when I was told I wasn't going to have any moulding at all. Just the cabinets meeting a bulkhead..not the look I wanted. The builder wasn't too happy when the bulkhead frames he'd just built had to be torn down..I showed the designer a picture of what I wanted but it's not what I got!

None of these things matter as we have a wonderful kitchen that we really enjoy every day. I prefer to be in here than anywhere else..More pics soon..xx

Wow, this looks beautiful. Looks we have a similar aesthetic! I wish I had two ovens. You don't need them all the time but they are so nice to have around the holidays.

It's just fabulous! I will definitely be showing this to Lyndon as it's just like what I imagine (and dream) or our future kitchen. Your drawers look so organised!

What a lovely kitchen and looks very practical too, don't focus on the things you would change or that weren't want you imagined they'd be like. Your kitchen is fab and you should be very proud with it :) Hope mine will be half as nice as that!

All things nice...

It looks like such a beautiful house with a wonderful kitchen at its heart. It's no wonder you love spending time there. My kitchen is so tiny it would fit in one of your drawers! Which I love by the way!

Ah, who has Nespresso coffee?

It all looks so beautifully organised, and I confess I love your glass-fronted upper cabinets. Not so much the square tiles, I see what you mean - but you could do a very easy fix by getting tempered glass cut to size, painting the back and mounting it over the tiles. Very sleek - I covered my hideousness five years ago and it still looks pristine.

Betcha you can get additional moulding to beef up the top of the cabinets - have a look at the last two photos on Layla's blog: http://www.theletteredcottage.net/2009/03/kitchen-update-march-2009.html

I would do it too if my cabinets weren't already fused to the ceiling...

Lots of tips to keep in mind. How good is the nespresso machine! So clean and easy to use. My boys love a baby chino in the afternoon when we have 'high tea'. I really probably was better suited to having girls, but I just wouldn't swap my boys for the world. They just have to tolerate their mother indulging them in high tea. Poor loves!

It is gorgeous - such a lot of work and so many things to think about when designing - I have to confess I don't even know what mouldings are! Clearly I have a lot to learn. Love your tea and coffee drawer - as suspected - you are the organised mother I dream of being!! A x

Rachel your kitchen is lovely. I am a big big fan of draws as well and yours look super organised. I think the glass cabinets also look lovely. You can display your things and not worry so much about cooking grime and dust getting to them. Thanks for sharing it with us. Have a great weekend. ;-)

What a beautiful kitchen Rachael - you must so enjoy working in there. I love your drawers - that is one change I would make to our kitchen if doing it again as it's so much easier to get to the back with them. I love your tea/coffee drawer - brilliant!! Can't believe the transformation of your space!

Beautiful makeover!! I can see why this is your favourite room to be in :-)

I'm sure everyone who does a major reno wishes they had done something different. There are so many decisions to make and not always a lot of time to make them. But I think you made lots of good decisions -- your kitchen looks great!! :-)
