I love this side of the kitchen, there's not much I would change if I did it all again. I've thought of perhaps changing the glass on the cabinets but that would require super organised and attractive contents.. something I might have time for in the future..The pantries have shallow shelves and the drawers are really useful for tins, packets and baking products.
Amongst the problems we experienced with our kitchen designer (who didn't actually design the kitchen, we did!), the fit of the fridge was one of them. When it came time for the plumber and builder to insert the fridge into its place, we found that it stuck out about 10cm. When I complained to the designer, he stated that I had never asked for the fridge to sit flush (flush meaning only the doors showing which is what we have now). Hmmm, if I had a dollar for every time I heard, "But you didn't ask for that" or "You didn't say that" during the renovation..
I asked him why I would bother spending a lot of money on a custom designed and made kitchen if the appliances didn't fit PERFECTLY. No response to that. And if he was honest, he would recall that I was emphatic about appliances fitting correctly after living with an enormous fridge sticking out in the old kitchen..
I persuaded the kitchen company to agree to our builder and plumber recessing the fridge into the wall. This required a bit of work as the wall was on two levels (our W.I.R. sits behind this cabinetry). It was worth it, it looks as it should now.
More kitchen soon..Happy Thursdayxx

Oh the classic "but you didn't ask for that"... well you're the expert who knows all about this stuff, maybe you could 'suggest'. Grrr, boiling blood. Gorgeous kitchen, gorgeous! A-M xx
I just adore all the renovations you guys have done to your lovely home - your kitchen is beautiful, so light and bright and fresh. I love how you have a little nook for you to work away at your laptop. If I had more space, I'd like to do that. It's amazing how you have to spell pretty much everything out when it comes to renovations isn't it. I've learnt to repeat and double check every single detail now :) Hope you are having a wonderful week.
I love the idea of pantry doors...so simple, but so very clever Rachael :)
Good on you for persisting to get what you wanted! Surely it's not rocket science???
Your cabinets look so nice and I would love a large double fridge like that one!

Your kitchen looks beautiful. I love that you incorporated a space for the laptop and to pay bills etc. How frustrating to have to spell everything out to the people who are qualified in this field. It is something I will have to remember for future. xx
What is it with tradies/designers that think near enough is good enough??
The results are great. I'd love a kitchen like this!
Well done on sticking to your guns and making sure the designer was aware that as a designer you are supposed to listen to your clients requirements and how do you achieve this......well you listen to your clients and make sure the design has been interperated correctly.
There is a lot of designers, builders and tradesmen that operate without thinking "how would I do this"....anything not flush makes me think that wasn't thought out 100%...
Ah the joys of renovating, I am hearing your loud and clear. Unfortunately, I am quickly learning that you do have to spell every little item out to tradies. Even though they do this stuff day in day out, it is like they become robots and have no thought to the finished look and how the customer might perceive it. I am with AM Grrr and boiling point. I am still kranky about our builder sorry... still not coming until next week now. Breathe.... ;-)
Timely reminder for me to be very specific about everything! Do tradespeople not have common sense? Clearly not! Love, Love, Love your kitchen.
X Briohny.
Thanks for that tip will put it in my notes when I go to go over the final kitchen plans.
As my hubby says, get it all in writing. I am composing a list of details to make sure we don't have any "misunderstandings"
Your kitchen is beautiful
Mekaela xx
Your kitchen is gorgeous Rachael. I love how light and bright it is and I love your little desk, what a fabulous idea. I hear your frustration over getting things done just as you wanted them, though. We too had many battles with our kitchen maker (we designed our kitchen too) over many things...Yours looks perfect:) Happy Thursday ~ Tina xx
I love your kitchen! Especially the little study nook! I am hearing you about the kitchen 'designer'. Letitia x
Rachael! Thanks for the super sweet comments! I LOVE LOVE LOVE your blog too! especially when you share what's going on in your home reno! Makes me want to do something with our house too! and I LOVE LOVE LOVE your kitchen! Can I live in your kitchen? ;P LOL
It is looking lovely!
Beautiful kitchen and I especially love the desk nook, I think all kitchens should have one! Mimi
I love it Rachael...you have amazing taste....we have a stick out fridge and it drives me crazy......:0
"But you didn't ask for that?"
Was he serious? That is appalling! I will make sure I am very specific to all about what I want, thanks for sharing! x
As the wife of a tradie I have to disagree with most of you, my husband often thought he was doing the best thing for clients by simply doing what he thought was the practical or best looking solution.....the number of times he was abused for his troubles has had him decide to keep his mouth closed unfortunately!
beautifull classic kitchen, love that you kept it so light and bright, and the floor is beautifulll can i say i'm jelouse is it parquet or tiles in the form of parquet?
Thank you so much Sarah! The floors are just narrow hardwood boards. They look so lovely thanks to the man who sanded and polished them, he achieved a really beautiful depth of colour. Rachael xx
