Here's a little bit of our kitchen..the desk 'nook'. Having an area for a computer was high on my list of priorities for the kitchen as it's such a part of modern life. We read the paper online here, blog here, pay bills here, listen to music..It's not huge but if I need more space I spread out on the island bench. It was suggested that I use a simple laminate top but I'm very happy with the stone as it looks lovely and is consistent with the rest of the kitchen..I might pretty it up a bit with a pin board and some vintage labels on the magazine holders..Do you have or would you put an area like this in your kitchen? Have a great Tuesday xx

What a gorgeous spot! We do have a desk and computer in the kitchen but it's very very mundane and crappy to be honest, nothing stylish whatsoever. It's good to know that these spaces can look super chic!
I don't have an area like this Rachael, as my kitchen's about as big as your desk! But if I could, I certainly would. I love the surface...is it ceasarstone? That's what I had in my last kitchen. Loved it.
I would LOVE a little nook like this in my kitchen - lucky you! Maybe in my next kitchen reno I'll manage to fit one in. Your home is gorgeous Rachael, I'm so envious! K xx
I would love a spot like that. so practical and great to keep an eye on kids as they get older etc. Love it!

Hi Kerry, it's Caesarstone Whispher. Slightly grey with patches of white xx
Oh I absolutely would, I think your desk space in the kitchen is inspired, I love it. xx
I would have a computer in the kitchen if it looked like yours. Very inspiring Rachael...

No desk area in my kitchen. Love your countertops!
Rachael, I would love one of these in my new house, I will have to keep this in the files for inspiration, I love it :)
This is fantastic, Rachael! I love the idea of having space for a computer, but like Kerry, my kitchen is not quite big enough. It would make life so much easier though, and would save me from running back and forth between kitchen and dining to look at recipes.
man i wish i had this kind of set up in the kitchen. my office is way down the other end of the house. i swear biscuits vaporise whenever i try and head down here! :)
That is just the sort of thing we try to get into every kitchen we design. It is great to have a place to put the computer, telephone, note pad, or even just a place to drop the mail. It's just the perfect little touch that sets a kitchen apart. This one you have here looks beautiful and well organized. Great job!
You must be a mind reader, It was only yesterday I was googling kitchen desk areas as I want one in my new house :) Thank you so much for sharing, your photo is going in my favourites for my kitchen folder. Thanks
All things nice...
What a handy spot to do all your daily tech stuff. I love the chair btw.
We have an open-plan kitchen/dining/living and the computer is just near the breakfast bar. It's great because it's so accessible.

Hi Rachel, that looks fantastic. I would definitely have one of these nooks and maybe I will build it into the butlers kitchen after your lovely picture. You are right in saying that they are very much part of today's living requirements and the kitchen is where it all happens.
Practical & Pretty all in one! Just love it...I'm thinking of having a little nook like this in our new kitchen! You mentioned details of your benchtop, but what are your kitchen cabinets? Also, would love to see a pic of the rest of your kitchen???
Absolutely breathtakingly gorgeous. I mean it. A-M xx
I have a little 'nook' in the family room, which is about 3 metres away from the kitchen. I have an old pine desk which will be painted white and handles changed, I will also buy an IKEA 'Ingolf' chair to match the bar stools I have in the Kitchen. I was in IKEA today buying a lack shelf for the wall above the desk, and will most likely buy another for the space aswell. I'm looking forward to dressing up this area, as it's been neglected for almost a year! It's a great place for the kids to use the lap top so I can see exactly what they are looking at!
Your little nook is gorgeous, and I'm very much looking forward to dressing up mine!
Husband and I were divided on this one for the new house. Me a big yes and you can guess what he said. We compromised with the study right off the kitchen so here's hoping it's the right call. You win some you lose some! Yours is gorgeous!
X Briohny.
Hi Rachael. You have a wonderful ability to create practical spaces that look beautiful. I still luurve your laundry and it is my inspiration in our new house.
I had originally planned a kitchen desk area but have gone with the study right nearby, so hopefully it will be close enough.

Ooooh yes, gorgeous spot. In my next house, I will definitely be having a little nook. Have it already planned out. I don't think your space is too small either. I think the bigger the space, the more mess you could make. That is what a study is for (well mine anyway!!!!). Nice post.
Absolutely YES! if only i have a bigger kitchen! :)
We are meeting with our kitchen designer tonight to firm up our kitchen plans and I'm going to throw a spanner in the works after seeing this stunning desk by suggesting we add one to our kitchen! Thanks for the timely inspiration!
We are doing something similar just outside of the kitchen boundary. I really wanted a study nook where I could see what the boys were doing on the computer. A real estate agent told me it is a highly sought after feature now!
We added an office nook in our kitchen meals when we renovated. It's perfect. It's central in our house so I can watch the boys - close enough to the kitchen to look up recipes and I don't feel locked away while I study.
I put some pics up on my blog just last week.
look fabulous! I've been wanting to try this in my kitchen and it's always nice to have posts for reference. Great job!
